By the window

The scented breeze of Spring enters the house. Even from a small corner in front of a window you can enjoy the season. We recently bought these 1950s curtains, made from barkcloth fabric that is so pleasing to touch! I think they look very fresh and match the colors in our living room perfectly. I love curling up on this chair and read some inspiring book... I wish I had more time to do it! I like to get into the spirit of the season, reading books that bring me into the right atmosphere. Gene Stratton Porter's The Keeper of the Bees is one of my favorites to re-read in spring and summer for example, or Katherine Mansfield's  short stories. What's your favorite seasonal book?

Pippi goes shopping

"Please may I have 36 pounds of sweets"... how many times, as a child, I must have read that chapter where Pippi Longstocking goes for a spree in a candy shop! One of my favorite scenes from a book I love and which I grew up reading. Here's how I imagined the scene in one of my latest illustrations. Pippi is my hero!

Pennies from heaven

This morning I was woken up by a crack of thunder. Rain ticking on my window made snuggling into bed even nicer.

I'm one of those people who are sensitive to the charm of a rainy day. I don't know why, but it makes me feel so very calm. 

A rainy day is perfect to drink hot coffee while leafing through sweet old books, so I'm showing you one of my favorites:

 

On a day like today, I wish I were a child again, splashing around in puddles. 

Tintin

 For years I've been reading Tintin, even though it might appear a bit of a "boyish" comic; it has a peculiar charm and reading it makes me feel like an old-fashioned schoolboy.

The drawings are so refined and I love the boy with the indomitable hair, not to mention his faithful little friend, Milou.

I love the 1930s athmosphere and the panels full of details! My favourite, "The Black Island" is set in the stormy British sea. I recommend to read it in a late summer afternoon with a cheese and ham sandwich and a glass of pear juice. Soon the Steven Spielberg-directed movie will come out, it looks so cool! I can't wait to see it, in the meantime, enjoy the preview!
